Mimir's Grove -
Mimir's Grove is the Regenerative Agriculture and Equine Assisted Learning home stead of Zak and Heather Smith. The primary focus is utilizing Regenerative Agriculture Practices and Equine Assisted Learning Programs to safely aid individuals in self-awareness, systems understanding, holistic well-being, and happiness.
Mimir is "The Rememberer" or "Wise One" of Norse mythology, holding all knowledge. Mimir’s Grove is a safe haven or refuge against the end of the world. In today's era of economic, ecological, and emotional unrest and unhealthy being, it seemed a fitting name for what we are attempting to accomplish here. Utilizing a system's approach to a happy, healthy, and whole being, we incorporate regenerative living practices (environmental, economical, and emotional) alongside self-awareness facilitation with horses to instill knowing of what is, in a supportive and safe haven.
We have opted to focus our energy and enthusiasm on rare, often heritage, breeds of flora and fauna. Currently we raise American Curly Horses, a rare breed of hypoallergenic, particularly human oriented, low energy consuming, high ability to excel in any discipline, sure footed, and sound minded horses. We raise Black Welsh Mountain Sheep (BWMS), a small to medium rare heritage breed, the only true black wool breed in the United States, also possessing wonderful dispositions. We raise Silver Fox Rabbits, a breed listed as critical by the The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy (http://albc-usa.org/), bred for their meat, coats, and exceptionally friendly dispositions making them wonderful pets as well. We have accumulated a diverse flock of laying chicken and guinea fowl hens who have free range of the grounds, as well as started raising Cayuga, Ancona, and Rouen ducks, all at varying levels of endangerment, heritage breeds (except the Rouens, who are just really fun to have here).
We have recently started our first Hugelkulture bed and are excited to see how it progresses alongside our Herb Spiral. We are greeted by a variety of Evergreen Trees joined by groves of fruit trees (apples, pears, plums, peach), Walnut and Hazelnut Trees, a Bamboo Forrest, several Berry Bushes (blueberry, raspberry, blackberry), Rose-hips, and an ever increasing diversity of plant members.
We welcome you to peruse our site, learn more about our enchanting American Curly Horses, Black Welsh Mountain Sheep, Silver Fox Rabbits, E.C.H.O. programs, and regenerative living projects. Please feel free to contact us with any questions, comments or suggestions you may have, and check back frequently as we update how we are progressing.
